07/14/08 :: CH2M HILL TRIGON SPONSORS FESTIVAL FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER

CH2M HILL Trigon was recently the lead sponsor of the 7th annual "Fire on the Mountain" bluegrass music festival. Proceeds from this festival are donated to "Country Kids with Cancer," a non-profit organization that donates 98% of its proceeds to the families of local youths with cancer. The festival, held at Vallecito Lake northeast of Durango, was organized in 2002 as a fundraiser to aid those who lost their homes in the June 2002 Missionary Ridge fire. Country Kids with Cancer became the beneficiary in 2004.

Festival organizers Jay and Vickie Howard said this year's festival raised about $9,200.

Country Kids with Cancer, based in Durango, Colorado, was founded by cancer survivor Sarah Shank. Sarah was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in 2000 and had to travel over 800 miles every three weeks for her treatment at Children's Hospital in Denver. During one of these trips, Sarah came up with the idea of Country Kids With Cancer. Her organization has been instrumental in helping many families that live in rural areas with their travel expenses. Ninety-eight percent of funds received go directly to the families in need. The other two percent is used for mailing and office supply expenses. For more information, visit Country Kids with Cancer.
